Tuesday – Day 14
We went to the muay thai camp at 6:30am again and decided to try running again and just keep going until we came to a Main road to turn on……..hmm, this didn’t seem to work either. This time we ended up going about 5K (3 mi), now I know that to some of you this is no big deal but because of a lot of overtime at work (I work full-time in addition to teaching) I haven’t been training as hard as I usually do and in combination with the heat in Thailand, it kicked my butt. Even at 7am the heat is unbelievable.

There were more people in our group today, we started again with stretching but before we started working the basics (punches and kicks) the head instructor wanted to move the people who knew what they were doing up to the front so the others could follow them if they got lost. He liked mine and Gene’s techniques so he called us to go up front of class. I would have felt pretty good about this except for the way that he said it, “You 2 old guys move up to the front”. Hmmm, kind of a back-handed compliment in my opinion.
Today we work on a lot more punches and kicks. We work partner drills for the first hour and then the trainers put on gear and we get in the ring and work with them. This is a lot of fun as we move around the ring and give and take kicks and punches. Still have to do push ups and sit ups in between sets.
After this they move us to the banana bags to practice our kicks. It is even hotter today than yesterday if that is possible (almost 35C, 95F) and the trainer holding the bag asks me to towel off because I am throwing so much perspiration from my body when I kick.

After class we showered, ate and then relaxed until the next class.
Second class started at 3pm and it is unbelievably hot. A lot of the same as the morning class but they decided to end each round of punching and elbow strikes on the bag with 100 punches. It got very difficult to move my arms by the end of class. This class ended about 15 minutes early but no one complained.
After changing we go down to meet my wife and the others for dinner. We have a nice thai dinner at a local sidewalk cafe. The food selection is so vast I have a hard time deciding what to order. The food is delicious and I try a little bit from some of the dishes that the others have got. We are sitting right next to the beach and there is a light breeze coming in………..you couldn’t ask for anything nicer.
